Ürütaü — Ürütaü — doom metal band from São Paulo, Brazil

Origin

Ürütaü was born in 2024 in the São Paulo underground scene, framing Brazilian folklore, Tupi-Guarani cosmology and urban legends as tales of horror and poetry.

Founded by Ale Galliard and Larissa "Lari" Death as a project that inherited riffs and songs from an earlier band, the duo gained its third member — and its name — when J. L. Índio joined on drums. It was Índio who sketched the first drawing of the urutau bird that is now the band's symbol.

The urutau bird is an omen of death, a symbol of mourning, mystery and connection to the spirit world — so enigmatic that dozens of different legends exist about it. That ambiguity gives the band both its name and its sound: heavy, slow-moving riffs, clean vocals, lyrics entirely in Portuguese, and a clear intent to give Brazilian and Indigenous folklore the same weight and seriousness pop culture almost always reserves for foreign mythologies.

Influenced by Candlemass, Black Sabbath, Death, Metallica, Napalm Death, Pink Floyd and Type O Negative, among others, Ürütaü has already shared the stage with Clenched Fist, Mortem Crucis, Mávra, Kvlto, Mortem Aetaten, Red Sun Lord, Satanatos and Arcano de Valak — and has been interviewed by outlets such as Na Lâmina da Foice, Idea Creator Cast, Rock Doido do Argoth and Ethnos Rock.
